Freshmen and first-time dorm dwellers have a lot to think about when they pack for campus life. Between dorm furniture, new bedroom essentials, decor ideas, and everything in between, it can be easy to lose track of what you need. To help make the transition smooth and keep your to-do lists organized, we made a handy college dorm checklist for you to reference, broken down in sections by function.

While we were compiling our extensive checklist of college dorm essentials, we thought of everything down to the lint roller. Because when you come to your dorm prepared, you’ll actually have time to focus on school, new friends, and extracurriculars, rather than panic-buying the stuff you missed at the last second. Whether you’re in a single or splitting the shopping duties with a few roomies, you can reference this college dorm checklist to help cover all the must-haves you need to prep for the semester ahead.

Bedding and Linens

Chances are, your dorm room will come with a basic bed frame and mattress, but you’ll need more than that to create a cozy sleep space. Breathable dorm bedding, comfortable linens, and a fresh set of towels are a must for dorm dwellers.

Cozy Bed Linens

Laundry Supplies

Is there anything better than taking a nice shower, putting on clean pajamas, and hopping into bed with freshly washed sheets? Stock up on laundry supplies to keep your space and your clothes smelling their best. Once you make a routine for your laundry, we promise it’ll get easier to stick to it!

Laundry Must-Haves

Cleaning Equipment

Similarly to laundry supplies, your cleaning basket should have everything you need to keep a tidy space, too. You don’t have to go overboard, but you should at least have the basics tucked away in a caddy in the room so you can keep germs away.

Kitchen Items

Maybe you’re in a dorm with a shared kitchen, or perhaps a sink is all you have to start with to create a functional cooking space. Either way, unless you plan on eating out every single meal (and never bringing home leftovers), you’ll need to equip yourself with some basic cooking essentials.

Kitchen Essentials

Clothing

What you wear tells your new classmates a lot about who you are, so put your best foot forward and showcase your unique style! In addition to everyday ensembles, consider packing one-off outfits like a business-casual look or a swimsuit for days where that might come in handy.
