Guest Room Hub

Anyone who loves to host friends and family knows how important it is to have an ultra-relaxing guest bedroom. You want it to feel like your loved ones are crashing at a luxe hotel, not just on a loveseat with a spare sheet. But there are tons of ways to design a cozy guest bedroom, whether you have a whole room dedicated to it or are working within a double-duty space.

If you have a standalone guest bedroom, you can really go all out. Make sure the mattress is comfortable, then top it with a few layers of bedding—basic sheet sets, duvet covers, and a quilt or throw blanket on top in case they get cold. Then comes the furniture, such as dressers and nightstands. (Don’t forget to set out hangers for the closet, too.) You’ll want a lamp on both sides of the bed, and electronics like a Bluetooth speaker or TV are nice additions, too.

But even if you’re working within a small layout, you can still create a welcoming guest space. Murphy beds and convertible sofas are easy ways to integrate a bed while still leaving the room open to function as a second living space or home office when you don’t have visitors. Even air mattresses have gotten more elevated if that's your only option.

However you set up the foundation of your guest room, don’t forget that it’s the little details that matter. Jonathan, for example, likes to set out a photo of him with the guests who are visiting to make them feel special. You can also display the Wi-Fi password, put together a basket of snacks and water, and have plush towels waiting, no matter the size of your room.
