It doesn’t get more rustic than a charming cabin, but this one needed a drastic update in order to sell for top dollar. We started by scaling back on the amount of exposed wood, painting the walls and between the beams to make the entire space feel brighter. We also, in an unusual move, removed some character from the kitchen—believe it or not, you can have too many unique pieces crammed into one area. With a clean slate to work with, we added a few stunning design features to give the home a cohesive, modern aesthetic.

DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS
NAILING THE RAILING
The home’s original railing had two major issues. First, its DIY latticework was not exactly up to code. Plus, the railing itself simply wasn’t memorable! A feature with such a large physical presence needs to actually be seen; this one was just there. We worked with Modern Iron Concepts to create and install this beauty, which provides sophistication, cohesion, and a jaw-dropping first impression.
A WOOD HOOD
Remember how we painted over a lot of the home’s wood features? We decided to pay homage to the original look in the kitchen. While we usually opt for some kind of metal for vent hoods, cedar felt like a more authentic route here—it’s reminiscent of what the walls used to look like.
HEX MARKS THE SPOT
The original bathroom was loud: lime green paint, monkey decor, dated fixtures. We transformed it into a soothing, spa-like oasis with the help of this soft gray and white floor tile. It provides just enough visual interest below without being distracting.
