Josh Groban's Life-Changing Gift to His Bandmate

Singer Josh Groban called on us to help give his bandmate and friend, Mark, a well-deserved renovation of his cramped garage studio and workout space. We took it a step further and brought the work outside, too, with a new backyard space that Mark’s family can relax in and enjoy.

DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS

STANDOUT STUDIO

Mark has been touring with Josh for years, and his garage recording studio setup was showing its age. We brought in all-new equipment for Mark so he can really flex his musical muscles, and we soundproofed the garage so he doesn’t have to worry about late-night sounds creeping into his new tracks. Natural wood tones against that deep blue will inspire Mark to play as beautifully as his studio looks.

PERGOLA PERFECTION

Mark’s old pergola and outdoor seating area was so rickety, it looked like one little Southern California earthquake would knock the whole contraption over. We went ahead and knocked it over ourselves to make room for a sturdy new structure that would provide better shade and a classic outdoor dining space, complete with a full kitchen and water feature.

HOT TUB TRANSFORMATION

Mark’s old hot tub was more hole-in-the-ground than holistic relaxation. It needed a total facelift, so we got in there with Josh to chip out all the old tile and resurface it with a calm, relaxing blue tile and stone finish. Surrounded by new decking and highlighted by a constellation of lights leading the way, Mark’s hot tub is now the perfect spot for a late-night soak after a long recording session.
