Goldie Hawn Completely Transforms Longtime Friend Celia’s First Floor

You may know her from NBC’s sketch comedy show Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In; her starring roles in movies like Overboard, Cactus Flower, and The First Wives Club; or her directorial debut in Hope. But this week, Hollywood royalty and Golden Globe and Academy Award-winning actress Goldie Hawn is joining Drew and Jonathan on Celebrity IOU to gift her longtime friend and chosen family Celia with the kitchen she’s dreamed of forever.

For 45 years, Celia has been Goldie’s rock. Through thick and thin, these two have seen so many stages of life together. When Goldie met Celia, Goldie was recently divorced and her daughter, Kate Hudson, was only 18 months old. It was a hard time in her life—always on set for a movie, going through heartbreak—and she needed someone to help take care of the house. Celia was her saving grace.

Goldie says, “Now this is who she was—she protected the kids, she protected me—and then my mom got sick, and then she protected my mother. She decorated her room…and took her to the doctor. In fact, she was right there when Mommy died.”

Celia is a caring person who has always been there for Goldie, both in times of need and times of joy, and Goldie wants to give back to her with a gift that will change her life. “The thing is that I’ve built my houses, I’ve decorated my houses—and then I get to do this for Celia, who is the angel of my life,” Goldie says.

Celia cooks for family and friends, and she needs more room for her big dinner parties. Goldie also wants the space to feel more open and brighter; a cozy, warm place that Celia can enjoy for years to come with her family and friends.

“Ultimately, what we want to do is going to change the whole feeling of her house, because we live in the kitchen in the morning, in the night; and we also live in our family room,” Goldie says.

And wow—Goldie and the Bros certainly accomplished that! They knocked down the half-wall that was disrupting the flow from the kitchen into the living room, and the space came to life. Now, there is a seamless transition into both spaces, so when Celia entertains, she’ll feel more connected with her guests.

Ample Storage

They tore out the old island and replaced it with a gorgeous black porcelain countertop island with plenty of large drawers for kitchen storage. New appliances and two-tone cabinetry provided a practical but beautiful touch to the overall look, especially in conjunction with the mid-tone engineered oak hardwood floors. They also raised the height of the ceiling (by almost six inches!) which made a world of difference to make the room look and feel more open.

Updated Dining

An open space for barstools beneath the island and an updated breakfast nook, equipped with a bay window banquette and modern lighting, finished off the look. You can see how much of a difference this made to the room’s structure and flow. Now, Celia has ample space to cook and enjoy her loved ones’ company.

Cozy Living Space

Goldie, Drew, and Jonathan finished off the open concept kitchen and living room space with a beautifully renovated family room. Plush seating, neutral-toned accessories, and that mid-toned flooring made a huge impact in the room’s ambiance. It’s far more calming now—the perfect place to unwind and relax together.
