Our favorite nanny came to Drew and Jonathan wanting to revamp her housekeepers’ home. On the Fran Drescher Celebrity IOU episode this week the dream team almost completely rebuilt housekeepers Ramon and Angelica’s living room and kitchen. The only dilemma? They had to get the job done in just four weeks while Ramon and Angelica were on vacation in Guadalajara. But they buckled down, and brought in a ton of crew to help get it done. Turns out, the reno was going to be much more intense than they first imagined.
Ramon and Angelica have been in Fran’s life for 30 years now, and they mean the world to her. They’ve been there with Fran while she fought cancer and went through a painful divorce. And Fran has seen their four children grow up and become incredible adults. Fran says, “There’s your biological family, and then there’s your logical family. And they’re my logical family.” Ramon and Angelica really prioritize family, love, and home. But after coming to the United States from Mexico, they’ve put all their energy into raising their kids and supporting their education. So getting the house together and tackling renovations was put on the back burner. Now, Fran is surprising her found family with a stunning living, dining, and kitchen reno that will provide them with safety, style, and functionality.

Let’s Get Started
When they first entered the house, Fran and the Bros made a shocking discovery: Termites had infested the home. Drew and Jonathan had to gut the entire space, from floor to ceiling, down to the studs. They replaced all the beams, flooring, and insulation in the attic, to make sure the structure was safe for renovations. Afterward, it was down to business. Fran and Jonathan got to picking out designs for the space, opting for a light, bright, and natural palette. They also reintroduced certain original details that had been erased from their 1920s Craftsman. Adding defined wood framing and a window seat in the bay window really helped bring the space together.
Kitchen Before & Afters
Fran’s main concern in the kitchen was to make it feel brighter, more functional, and more fitting to Angelica’s personality. In order to get that done, Drew and Jonathan decided to rearrange the layout in the kitchen a bit. Breaking down the walls could be a good idea if there was more space, but since those walls provide so much storage, they just decided to focus on more functionality.
The backsplash behind the oven pays homage to Ramon and Angelica’s Mexican heritage. The floral, mosaic-style blue and white tile really ties in the space to make it feel like their own. Bright quartz counters and fresh hardwood floors bring in style and offer a seamless transition from the dining and living areas.
Let there be light! The Bros took down the peeling window film to let more natural light in, and provide a smart storage solution by installing open hanging shelving above the sink. Ramon and Angelica didn’t have a dishwasher before Fran, Drew, and Jonathan came in. So they also decided to install a paneled dishwasher that matches the new cabinetry.
Moving around the oven and refrigerator = maximizing space and creating better functionality in the kitchen. Now that the window is in full view (rather than blocked by the fridge) there’s more natural light coming in as well. Matching brass hardware pulls the room together to feel harmonious.
A Fresh Living and Dining Room
Finally, they tackled the living and dining area. Fran wanted to make sure the space felt open and welcoming, since the couple loves to host family dinners. They flipped the dining table orientation so there was a more clear walkway from the living room into the kitchen. (The bench seat in the bay window was a perfect addition!) Closed storage, more seating, and an open, spacious layout helped make the space more comfortable. When they got back to the house after vacation, Angelica and Ramon were shocked to find Fran, Drew, and Jonathan on their porch.
When they entered their home, Ramon and Angelica fought back tears. From the floors to the tiled backsplash, the couple admired each detail. Ramon said, “I always wanted to have a house so beautiful…Beautiful house and our beautiful kids. My beautiful wife. My American dream came true.” The two then head for the kitchen, where Drew, Jonathan, Fran, Ramon, Angelica, and their four kids enjoyed handmade tamales around their new dining room table.
