Watch Jonathan’s Behind-the-Scenes Tour of the Intuit Dome, Home of the LA Clippers
This week’s house tour might look a little different than usual. And that’s because it’s not a home to just anyone—it’s home to the Los Angeles Clippers! That’s right, Jonathan is taking an in-depth tour of the Intuit Dome, from its sustainable zero-waste sorting facility to the rooftop boasting more than 5,000 solar panels, and he’s bringing us along for the ride.
The 18,000-seat arena was built in 2024, and it goes above and beyond your typical sports stadium. Steve Ballmer, owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, is a total basketball superfan, and when he was speaking with designers and architects to build the arena, he had one main goal: He wanted it to feel like you were in his very own living room. That meant it needed to be comfortable; have convenient options for food and drink without the burden of long lines; include interactive games, cool experiences, and conversation starters; and even more amazing additions along the way—all while celebrating the pride of the Clippers fanbase.
But he didn’t just want the 100,000-square foot arena to talk the talk; he wanted it to walk the walk. A stadium that large would usually produce a ton of waste, call for extremely long lines and wait times, and use up an insane amount of power. But not the Intuit Dome. It operates on its very own power grid, is a platinum LEED-certified building with net zero waste, and has state-of-the-art tech that’s essentially eliminated waiting in lines. So come along with Jonathan as he gets an exclusive tour of the Intuit Dome from Gillian Zucker, President of Business Operations for the LA Clippers, in the video above. You’ll soon see everything that makes this sports arena one of a kind, but here are some of our favorite highlights, too:
Sustainable Design
Vertical gardens for concessions foods; a zero-waste sorting facility; its very own solar panel power grid—these are just a few of the incredible sustainable design features that the Intuit Dome has incorporated to make their space more eco-friendly. For Ballmer, it was important to make this arena into a place that stepped into the future and can become a pillar in sustainable architecture.
High-Tech Features
Their cutting-edge facial recognition software used in the app for the Intuit Dome virtually eliminates lines, so you can simply walk through security after scanning in without having to wait around at all! It also means you don’t need a wallet to purchase snacks and drinks. The app you use to scan your face and create your profile with your ticket will also hold a virtual wallet that will be used to pay for any of your items you scan in the shop.
Cool Touches
Pyrotechnics, live interactive games for attendees, and an opening video with music by Hans Zimmer? Yes, yes, and yes! The Intuit Dome has unique touches and thoughtful additions in every corner. Over 1,644 sports jerseys from every high school in California are displayed around the entire arena, showcasing a love of the game and a pride in California sports. The cookies sold at the arena are even made from Zucker’s own family recipe! It’s these small, intimate details that make all the difference in the experience.
