When Drew and Linda first renovated their house eight years ago, they knew it would be their forever home. And just like with any renovation or big move, sometimes it takes living there for a while in order to understand what works and what doesn’t! Your taste in style and design might morph, you find out what areas and features you actually use regularly, little ones might come along—and you need your home to adapt to those changing needs. So after almost a decade post-reno, Drew and Linda are sharing what worked (and what didn’t), and how their home has changed since they first moved in.

Be it a feature they don’t use anymore or a shift in a room’s purpose (their guest room is now Piper’s bedroom!), some decisions aren’t meant to last forever. As Drew and Linda’s family has grown and changed, so did their home. So, take a peek inside, and explore how they rate their original decisions, and how they’ve tweaked their property along the way.

Drew and Linda’s Renovation Ratings

Time for a throwback! Below, Drew and Linda are looking at the original photos of their home that were captured on Property Brothers At Home: Drew’s Honeymoon House, and are discussing which design decisions they’d recommend and which ones they’d forego if they were to renovate the house all over again today. Check out their ratings and see what they have to say about each one!

His & Hers Bathroom Vanities: 10/10

“Separate vanities save my sanity. I’ve learned that there’s SOMEHOW an order to chaos?! Marriage lesson: Leave your partner’s stuff as is! Also, I’ve used this beautiful tub only three times… It’s the kids’ tub now. We love that we can all do our night-time routines in one space,” Linda says.

Black Primary Bedroom: 5/10

“Loved the dark, moody vibes, but we’re definitely ready for a change,” Drew says. “Another marriage lesson: Listen to Linda! She said we would never use this fireplace and she was right. The only time it was used was probably for this photo—ha!”

Bird-Themed Guest Room: 10/10

“This was one of our favorite rooms. We loved having guests stay in this cozy space, BUT Miss Piper has taken over this one now! Stay tuned for her new room reveal,” Linda says.

Guest Suite Revamp: 6/10

“The guest suite got the biggest update since my parents moved out into their own LA house. We redesigned it to be more our style. We left their band posters up though. JK. Reveal coming soon!” Drew says.

Range and Pot Filler: 8/10

They originally had a gas stove, but later made an upgrade that was a better fit for their lifestyle—which earns a high rating in their book. “We’ve happily swapped our gas stove for an induction range. Wish we’d done that from the start! The pot filler is a win. We use this ALL the time,” Linda says.

Wood Roof Deck With Umbrellas: 3/10

“Our roof deck was beautiful—until the wood planks started warping and needing re-staining,” Drew says, “So we made a few low-maintenance updates to make it enjoyable rain or shine. Now this space is often a retreat for Linda and me after we get the kiddos to bed!” (Psst: See the full reveal and tour of the revamped space here.)

Statement Shelves: 10/10

Each holiday, Linda turns this will into an interactive feature wall, like a giant advent calendar or a big dollhouse,” Drew says. “Looking at this photo reminds me of how much our lives have changed since the original renovation. Our shelves have not looked so tidy since! The bottom shelves are now all lined with kids books and toys… Not the prettiest but the kids love it and they’re kind of my bosses.”
