It’s not an understatement to say I’m a huge pet person. For several years, I had both a cat and a dog, and it was so fun to have my furry friends around all the time. But, of course, there is a downside when it comes to animal ownership and maintenance: pet hair. I’ve lived in apartments for the last decade, and the combined shedding piled up fast in such small spaces. Of course, I didn’t want it to overtake my couches, rugs, sheets, and clothes, so I had to test all the tools and tricks out there and find a routine that kept the shedding at bay. Though my kit requires a few items (like my favorite handheld vacuum and Swiffer duster cloths), there is one essential that has consistently stood above the rest: The ChomChom roller.
I first bought my ChomChom pet hair remover in 2023, and I still have the same model to this day. Since then, I’ve also tested competitive products, and while all have their pros, nothing is quite as simple and easy as the ChomChom. Keep reading for my full review.
How We Tested
As I mentioned above, I’ve had my ChomChom for 3 years and counting. I’ve used it on my velvet couch, polyester couch, low-pile rugs, and even my sheets and duvet cover. I’ve never had to replace my ChomChom, and it’s in the same condition it was in when I first purchased it. I’ve also tested many competitive products including the pet hair removing gloves, rakes, and pet-specific sticky lint rollers. Time and time again, I’ve returned to the ChomChom as the best of the best.
Our Review
The ChomChom is as easy and effective as it gets. You simply run it back and forth over your surface, and it captures all the pet hair into its waste compartment. When it’s full, you just empty the compartment into the trash. Though you may have to run it over particularly tricky spots a few times to pick up all the debris, it does an excellent job of capturing the hair and doesn’t damage your fabric or finishes along the way.
My favorite place to use the ChomChom is my velvet couch, which is a deep navy blue and unfortunately shows all of my dog’s hair. My pup can’t stand the sound of a vacuum, so grabbing the ChomChom for a quick cleanup is such a stress-free way to keep my home fur-free. I also have a particularly annoying low-pile rug that sits in direct sunlight, meaning every speck of dirt and hair is visible. The vacuum alone doesn’t suck up all the shedding, so I usually go over the rug with the ChomChom first. It makes a significant difference on its own, but when paired with the vacuum, it’s the best way to get that hair headache under control.
The one con about the ChomChom is that it’s not necessarily formulated to pick up dirt or crumbs. It might grab some along the way, but it’s not going to replace a vacuum in terms of that aspect, so you might still need to do a quick run with a handheld or standard vacuum to get any grime that isn’t hair-related. And while it does help on sheets and duvets, you have to pull the fabric tout for it to work most effectively. It’s not going to replace the act of washing your bedding, but again, it will hold you over between laundry days.
The Verdict
The ChomChom really can’t be beat for simple pet hair removing maintenance. It’s not going to be the only tool you’ll ever need to use, but for quick, effective cleaning—combined with its overall longevity as a cleaning product and the fact it requires no replacement cloths or parts—the ChomChom a no-brainer buy. Bonus: Your dog won’t bark at it, either. (Probably!).
