William Shatner Surprises His Assistant Kathleen With a Kitchen Refresh

Whether you’re a sci-fi buff, Star Trek fan, or comedy lover, we can all agree that William Shatner is a household name. But to Kathleen, “Bill” is also her boss—and her longtime friend. Kathleen has worked as Bill’s assistant for 14 years. “She’s on top of all the things I’m doing, with that kind of devotion, loyalty, attention to detail,” he says. “She’s just a terrific human being.” But over the years, he’s seen how unhappy she is with her kitchen. It’s dark, the layout isn’t working, and there’s lots of little pieces that don’t fit together properly. So today on Celebrity IOU, as Captain Kirk would say, they’re going boldly where no man has gone before to gift Kathleen with the kitchen and living space of her dreams.

Kathleen and her husband Jack have lived in their condo for five years. They love their home, but it’s dated and there are things they’d like to change to make it function better. And though Kathleen has a great eye for design, she hasn’t been able to do as much as she wants to with their place. Kathleen and Bill have a shared love of equestrianism, and he knows that she enjoys rustic, natural materials. However, Bill also knows that she doesn’t want the space to feel as dark and dreary as it does now. They’re hoping for a cohesive mix of rustic and modern, with elegant fabrics and finishes to give the space a refresh she’ll love.

A Kitchen Worth Cooking In

This kitchen is almost unrecognizable! Knocking down the part of the wall where the fridge was standing before created a better flow, and removing the soffits made a huge difference in the way that light reflects in the kitchen. A more efficient layout was top priority here, and Drew, Jonathan, and William were able to achieve that and more with the renovations.

Functional Dining That Flows

With the dated mirror wall finally gone, the space already felt brighter and more modern. They were also able to take out a segment of the wall separating the two rooms to better connect the layout and bring in the natural light. They incorporated a banquette and flipped the orientation of the dining table, and that along with a fresh coat of paint and updated lighting resulted in a completely new space.

Living Space Upgrade

Function, flow, and elegant furniture marry to create a home that Kathleen and Jack are eager to enjoy. While new light oak flooring sets the mood for a brighter, more open feel, upgraded fixtures and furniture and a beautiful coat of cream paint only add more softness. Kathleen wanted the space to feel serene and updated without losing the rustic charm she loves, and with the mixed wood tones and natural finishes, they were certainly able to achieve the balance.

Calm, Cozy, and Comfortable

With new lighting and curtains, as well as a full furniture upgrade, Kathleen and Jack’s living room not only feels more inviting and comfortable, but it also showcases their personality more authentically. Family photos hung above the sofa bring a personal touch that was lacking before, while the cozy fabrics and lamps make creating ambiance easy. Kathleen was overjoyed with the reno, and so grateful for William and the Bros’ help. “It’s far superior to what I could have ever imagined,” Kathleen says. “It feels like you really know me and my style.”
