Brian and Meghan’s sprawling Las Vegas property is a good example of a tough life lesson: Even the nicest homes can have design flaws. In this instance, there was a floating half wall suspended above the kitchen island and an incredibly awkward eat-in banquette—not to mention a few less-than-impressive builder-grade materials throughout. We opened up the heart of this home, then added fun and functional design details so the family could get the best possible use out of their kitchen, living room, and game room. The result, which includes a custom arcade game, was a winning renovation.

DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS
GAME CHANGER
To add visual interest to the large, empty wall in the game room, we created a geometric accent molding and then painted it to match the current wall color. (Because the design of the molding is so clean and simple, it doesn’t feel overbearing at all.) But the most exciting aspect of this space is the built-in arcade game next to TV, which was customized for this fun-loving family. We can totally picture the scene on Saturday mornings here: a friendly video game competition with people lounging in the beanbag chairs and sipping on OJ.
A SIGN OF LOVE
Throughout this renovation, we wanted to focus on family togetherness. We added banquette seating toward the back of the game room with a comfy custom cushion and throw pillows; this is a prime spot for playing board games and piecing together puzzles. For a sentimental touch, we commissioned a neon sign that says “love you more!”—a phrase Meghan’s grandmother used to say to the family often.
SO FRESH AND SO CLEAN
Brian and Meghan expressed their desire for a fresh update to the kitchen, and white cabinets do just that while adding a timeless feel to the home; meanwhile, new brass knobs and pulls provide a nice contrast and add a touch of glam. We also used a white marble quartz countertop to make the kitchen look bright and clean—the waterfall edges were a “must-have” for Meghan in particular. Finally, a white curved chevron backsplash tile, a twist on the classic style, gives a feminine touch while staying within one color scheme.
