Cheers to creating coziness wherever you can, through moments with family, friends, and furry companions.
There’s a certain bustle and buzz in our houses around this time of year. A sense of rushing to finish work so that we can get to the main event: getting cozy under a blanket (or four), watching our favorite movies in front of a roaring fire, and having a mug of hot chocolate nearby. Enjoying this moment and all the warmth this time can bring—the calm before the beautiful storm of the holidays—becomes our focus as soon as a chill hits the air.
This season brings us back to once upon a time when the three of us Scott brothers were actually cute and could truly get away with wearing adorable flannel pajama onesies for movie nights or weekend morning cartoons, or when we would sit by the fireplace and make silly faces for Mom and Dad. We’re all overdue for some calm and some warm fuzzies, so in this issue, we’re calling on all things cozy!
How do we cozy? Let us count the ways… We all know the familiar feeling of slipping into your favorite sweater or plush pajamas. But our favorite of all is the warm fuzzy feeling we get when we know that we’ve passed that feeling on to someone else, whether it’s simply with a handwritten card or a quick “Thinking of you” text, or by finding the perfect gift that shows that you just get them. This year’s gift guide is curated with both do-good and feel-good in mind.
And if you haven’t already, now might be the time to put into practice all that we’ve learned about self-care this year. Surround yourself with comfort. Naturally, we have our usual tips and tricks to get everything in its place, whether it’s on the mantel, along the walls, or in your very own dining nook. Tend to all five senses when cozying up your space: Hello, candles and soft blankets!
If you need some inviting inspiration, let one of our stars be your guide. Step inside Brian Patrick Flynn’s mid-century makeover, which will have you ready to curl up by the tree—and maybe borrow his dogs. Take a little intermission to revisit the quaintness of The Holiday’s country cottage and bask in the gorgeous get-away-from-it-all-ness of Brooklyn Decker’s mountain retreat. Then make your own frothy cup of hot chocolate for story time with Laura Benanti, who wrote about her childhood home, and with Vanessa and Nick Lachey as they talk parenting, work, and family.
No matter where the season takes us, as we wrap up the year, we always return to the comfort of home, because the coziest of all feelings is a sense of belonging: to each other, to our family, to ourselves. We create that feeling through moments with the ones we love, our family, friends, and furry companions. Bundle up, snuggle in, and join us in becoming your truest, coziest self this season. And pass the marshmallows, please.
