Small living spaces can have a huge impact on our feline friends. To provide a stylish solution to keep them happy, architect Eleonor Moschevitz, alongside Sweden’s first cat psychologist (yes, really) Susanne Hellman Holmström, designed this chic Cat Flat cat home for the self-storage company 24Storage. We think it’s paw-sitively purrr-fect. With room to play, various nooks and crannies to hide and groom, and so much more, this design-forward cat home is the definition of form meets function for pet owners.

While cat cat trees and play tents are fantastic pet-friendly furniture options to keep your kitties happy, this Cat Flat has the added benefit of its modern look. Because of its ability to seamlessly blend into the rest of your decor, you can have all the advantages of a massive cat tower, all hidden behind chic cabinetry that you can close at any time. Leave it open for kitty to play on during the day, and simply close the doors whenever you’re hosting guests. Let’s explore how Moschevitz and Holmström put this genius Cat Flat idea into motion, and take a closer look at all of its components. At the end, you might be inspired enough to DIY your own!

1. Insta-Famous Kitties

Swedish cat-fluencers Prime and Raven (both Bengals) were the first two lucky felines to try out this iconic Cat Flat. (You can follow them @prime_the_bengal to keep up with all their kitty endeavors.)

2. Room to Stretch Out

The interior of the cabinet is lined with sisal hemp, leather, and sheep skin—durable materials that cats can scratch, rub against, or lay out on. There’s a plentiful variety of texture here, which is important to keep kitty entertained and engaged with their playground.

3. And a Great Place to Snooze

This little side box plays double-duty: It’s a cozy spot to hide or nap, and also serves as a step for cats to hop up on to get to the second level of the Cat Flat.

“We all know cats are curious beings. So this chic cat address is a perfect solution to keep them entertained—and to keep your home and all your furniture from turning into a cat gym!”

Close the Door for Quiet Time

Closing the cabinet doors provides a retreat for cats, who naturally crave alone time and a place to hide. The opposing slats offer a gorgeous design element to the Cat Flat. And whenever kitty is ready to play, they can simply open up a few of the doors.

Plenty of Room to Roam

Holmström has defined 13 “holy necessities” that cats need to be happy and healthy. This flat includes dedicated spaces for a whopping 10 of them: scratching, hunting, grooming, hiding, watching over their territory, sleeping, playing, spying, discovering, and social interaction. We know Whiskers will be excited about that!

With the Option to Game On

Adding an iPad loaded with feline-friendly video—with birds, fish, or other moving creatures—simulates the act of hunting, while the holes next to the screen have toys hidden inside for even more ways to play. We love that their curiosity has room to thrive in this sweet cat cabinet!
