Jonathan and Zooey’s Dreamy Main Suite

Even if you love entertaining, everyone needs a space to escape: That’s Jonathan and Zooey’s main suite. In a lot of renovations, the main suite gets overlooked, even though it’s probably the room we all spend the most time in.

Main Bedroom

In mine and Zooey’s main suite, we wanted to keep the vintage aesthetic. A big part of this was keeping cove features on the ceiling, even after we raised and replaced the water-damaged roof. We also placed beautiful vintage-looking light switches and doorknobs throughout the room for the look and feel that this home would have had in the 1930s.

But everyone knows the best place to start with relaxation is the bed itself. And I’m not being self-promotional (OK, maybe a little bit) when I tell you that we went full Scott Living. We went with our Scott Living by Restonic mattress on a Scott Living adjustable bed base, which is great after a long day on site. The bed is covered in our Scott Living hygro-cotton sheets, and rests on one of our Drew and Jonathan by Karastan rugs

Like I said, a little self-promotional.

Main Bathroom

You’ve seen on our shows when homeowners described their vision for their main bathroom as a spa-like oasis, and we definitely made it happen here. Storage was key, as was having a space where you could look out the windows and enjoy the surroundings.

Ollin Stone handled all of the stonework on the project, most of which is Laminam. This material gives you the beauty of real stone, but it’s much more durable.

For hardware, because this is a 1938, architecturally significant home, we used classic brass finishes throughout, along with some black and brush nickel finishes.

Zooey’s Zone

Park House Office

Zooey’s craft space is one-of-a-kind, where she makes all kinds of things like party invitations with her Cricut. She also uses this space to work on songs for She & Him (which just released Melt Away, a tribute to Brian Wilson).

It connects nicely to her office space, but can be closed off with solid-core pocket doors, which are great to both save space and insulate sound. Finally, her makeup suite is both a relaxing place to get ready, and also strictly off-limits to me.
