Big Family, Big Reno: Katrina & Marlon
Katrina and Marlon met as teenagers at Marlon’s parent’s home, a cherished hub for big gatherings. After Marlon’s parents passed, the extended family wanted to continue the house’s legacy. So, 20 years after they first crossed paths there, Marlon, Katrina, and their toddler moved in!

They needed some improvements, though, so we totally revamped the kitchen and living room. Now, they can enjoy this beloved home for generations to come.

Design Highlights

Where Memories Are Made
We knew the living room held a lot of memories for Marlon, like Superbowl parties and renovations he did with his dad. That’s why we left a few elements in place, including the stairs the two personally installed. We also added new nostalgic touches, like the gallery wall, so more memories could be made and honored.

Minimalist Magic
By taking down the wall separating the living room and kitchen, the couple can now cook and clean while keeping an eye on their toddler, Maddie, as she plays. Plus, the black accents and minimalistic style fits the couple much better than the previously dated wooden design.

Favorite Places
Katrina and Marlon’s families love board games, so we wanted to make sure the table was big enough for both family dinners and game nights. We also added a neon sign that commemorates the couple’s “favorite” phrase to tell each other.
